Welcome to "Wardie's Words"

Welcome to my blog! I have decided to begin using this blog as another opportunity to communicate with Defer parents and guardians in an effort to provide you with current and relevant information on a variety of topics throughout the year. My hope is that you will visit the blog often or better yet subscribe to it in order to receive it automatically.

I welcome your feedback and comments at any time.

The building has been humming with activity as the custodial and office staffs have been completing their work in order to get the school ready for students on the first day of school on Wednesday, Sept. 3. A number of teachers have been in recently, anxious to get their classrooms and materials ready for their students.

The office staff will be sending a postcard reminder early next week to the parents of all enrolled students, reminding them of the Aug. 26 and 27 times to pick up their child’s packet of information, including their teacher assignment. PTO members will be giving out the packets in the hallway outside the office both days between 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.

Two sessions are being held to welcome new Defer families. The first will be at 7:00 p.m. on Tues., Aug. 26 and the other will be at 9:00 a.m. on Wed., Aug. 27. We wish to invite any new Defer students and their families to this informal, informative gathering. We will meet in the Gym on the main (second) floor.

If you or someone you know has a prospective student who is not yet enrolled, please encourage them to do so by calling the District Enrollment Office at 432-3083 to make an appointment. It is extremely important to do this as soon as possible to assist us in our classroom placements.

The first day of school will be a half-day only, in the AM from 8:25-11:34 a.m. AM and PM Kindergarten students will both attend that morning on a reduced schedule. All of this information will be in your child’s packet when you pick it up on Aug. 26 or 27.

I am looking forward to seeing you and your children soon and working in partnership with you throughout the school year.
